"Wheels of Glory Cycling" is a bicycling group who are serious about letting the community know that Seventh-day Adventists believe in living a healthy lifestyle.
The group got its start when Virgil Thompson a newly baptized member of the Normandie Avenue Seventh-day Adventist Church in Los Angeles, California, began riding with Keith Bradford an elder in the church. When Thompson learned that Bradford along with several members of the church went cycling regularly, he decided to join them. One Sunday morning while they were out on a ride, Thompson told Bradford of his dream about sharing the Adventist health message in an upcoming L. A. Marathon. He envisioned Pathfinders passing out literature, a health van conducting health screenings, and Adventist cyclers wearing jerseys identifying them as Seventh-day Adventists. After much prayer and discussion the "Wheels of Glory Cycling" was born.
The group not only receives strong support when they are participating in bike tours, but they are often acknowledged by motorists honking their horns as they drive by and they also engage in conversation when they are stopped at traffic lights. In addition to sharing the health message in community events, one of the group's main goals is to help every church member to become fit and healthier.
